For Me The Picture Below Sums Up A Perfect Britain,

sunny days, steam train and a typically British landscape, compared to now a days it was slower by steam, you have to forget about the InterCity routes, banish from your mind any talk of Government plans for a new 250mph line from London to the north, it’s the branch lines and slow trains that truly offer some of the most glorious journeys in Britain — and, indeed, the world, it’s now almost half a century since the Beeching era, where he became known as Britain's most hated civil servant, Michael Williams takes the past year travelling the length and breadth of Britain on the slowest of slow trains — not on preserved ‘heritage’ railways, but on ordinary Network Rail lines using tickets bought from normal ticket offices, a truly nostalgic read, if only steam could come back, I know it would be dirty, noisy and smell of coal dust and oil, oh! but what memories those stimuli would bring back!
