We Had A Quiet Day Today,

so it was feet up and watch a few DVD's, but also catch up on some e-mails I had not read yet, I have put a few funnies I received after the DVD's we watched, first a couple from this set, Battle of the River Plate and We Dive At Dawn, all British stiff upper lip and all that, but well made films for the time that captured the public imagination,
another from the Bond box, The Man With The Golden Gun, Scaramanga is a hit-man who charges a million dollars per job, He becomes linked to the death of a scientist working on a powerful solar cell, and James Bond is called in to investigate, as he tracks down Scaramanga, he realises that he is highly respected by the killer, as an aside I did many years ago know a diver in Cebu that had a third nipple as Scaramanga did, if you are reading this Oscar Hi from us,
we also bought the Die Hard quadrilogy, so first up Die Hard 1, New York City Detective John McClane has just arrived in Los Angeles to spend Christmas with his wife, unfortunately, it is not going to be a Merry Christmas for everyone, a group of terrorists, led by Hans Gruber is holding everyone in the Nakatomi Plaza building hostage, with no way of anyone getting in or out, it's up to McClane to stop them all, all 12 of them!
back to the Bond box for The Spy Who Loved Me, Diana has really developed a taste for these Bond movies, James Bond is back again and his new mission is to find out how a Royal Navy Polaris submarine holding sixteen nuclear warheads simply disappear whilst on patrol, Bond joins Major Anya Amasova and takes on a a web handed mastermind, known as Karl Stromberg, as well as his henchman Jaws, who contains a mouth of metal teeth, Bond must track down the locations of the missing submarine before the warheads are fired, in a strange move the Russian submarine is called Potemkin, I guess named after the ship in the film about the mutiny in the Russian Navy Battleship Potemkin the film made by one of my favorite directors Sergei M. Eisenstein, the film was so powerful at the time the film was rejected for a UK cinema certificate in 1926 by the BBFC following fears of working class insurrection, and remained banned until January 1954 when it was finally released with an X certificate,
it is also famous for the scene where a mother is shot, she lets go of her pram and it with baby inside bounces down the steps of Odessa, parodied in many other films, Simpson's and one of the Naked Gun series spring to mind, great film and yes I have it and 3 or 4 others from this great director, then on to the jokes, I do not know or can not prove if the following are true statements but they made me chuckle!
WHO SAID FOOTBALLERS AREN'T INTELLIGENT? My parents have always been there for me, ever since I was about 7. " David Beckham "I would not be bothered if we lost every game as long as we won the league." Mark Viduka "Alex Ferguson is the best manager I've ever had at this level. Well, he's the only manager I've actually had at this level. But he's the best manager I've ever had." David Beckham "I've had 14 bookings this season - 8 of which were my fault, but 7 of which were disputable." Paul Gascoigne "I've never wanted to leave. I'm here for the rest of my life, and hopefully after that as well." Alan Shearer "I'd like to play for an Italian club, like Barcelona " Mark Draper "You've got to believe that you're going to win, and I believe we'll win the World Cup until the final whistle blows and we're knocked out." Peter Shilton "I faxed a transfer request to the club at the beginning of the week, but let me state that I don't want to leave Leicester " Stan Collymore "I was watching the Blackburn game on TV on Sunday when it flashed on the screen that George (Ndah) had scored in the first minute at Birmingham .. My first reaction was to ring him up. Then I remembered he was out there playing." Ade Akinbiyi "Without being too harsh on David Beckham, he cost us the match." Ian Wright "I'm as happy as I can be - but I have been happier." Ugo Ehiogu " Leeds is a great club and it's been my home for years, even though I live in Middlesborough." Jonathan Woodgate "I can see the carrot at the end of the tunnel." Stuart Pearce "I took a whack on my left ankle, but something told me it was my right." Lee Hendrie "I couldn't settle in Italy - it was like living in a foreign country." Ian Rush " Germany are a very difficult team to play...they had 11 internationals out there today." Steve Lomas "I always used to put my right boot on first, and then obviously my right sock." Barry Venison "I definitely want Brooklyn to be christened, but I don't know into what religion yet." David Beckham "The Brazilians were South American, and the Ukrainians will be more European." Phil Neville "All that remains is for a few dots and commas to be crossed." Mitc hell Thomas "One accusation you can't throw at me is that I've always done my best." Alan Shearer "Sometimes in football you have to score goals." Thierry Henry
then off to bed.
