The Story Of The Duke And Duchess Of Windsor,

seems to have fascinated people the world over, briefly King Edward VIII was the eldest child of Britain's King George V and Queen Mary, in 1930, while he was still Prince of Wales, Edward met an American woman named Wallis Warfield Simpson, Her first marriage had ended in divorce, and when she met the prince she was married to her second husband, Ernest Simpson, the prince, who was single and had a reputation as a playboy, fell deeply in love with Mrs. Simpson,

George V died in January 1936, and Edward VIII succeeded him as king, Mrs. Simpson divorced her husband later that year, the King was determined to marry her, but he could not convince the royal family or government officials to accept a divorced woman as his queen, on December 11, Edward VIII officially abdicated,

what a love story! but the point of it all is that some of the jewellery that belonged to them has just been sold, the bracelet, above, owned by Wallis Simpson, has sold for a world record £4.5m at auction, it was one of 20 pieces owned by the late Duke and Duchess of Windsor to go under the hammer in the sale, which raised a total of £7,975,550, the jewellery had been expected to fetch in the region of £3m, interest in the couple is still high in some circles, take for instance The Duke and Duchess of Windsor Historical Society Inc. it is a California non-profit corporation,

my collection of memorabilia is a little more affordable, two first day covers stamped on the very day they were married, 3rd June 1937, has any body before or since given so much for true love?
