In These Times Of Hard Ship For Many Councils Up And Down The Land,

it is good to hear that some are cash flush, take South Somerset District, looking after just 162,000 residents the council had sufficient funds to pay Phil Dolan, (above), that he received a total pay and pension package of almost £570,000 last year, four times the Prime Minister's £142,500 salary, well it is a big council! Phil Dolan was handed £569,000 when he took redundancy from South Somerset District Council in March,

also the local authority paid two other executives more than £300,000 - meaning it paid £1.3 million of taxpayers money to just three employers, after taking voluntary redundancy at the age of 54, Mr Dolan received his normal salary of £138,000, along with a redundancy payment of £167,000 and £6,000 to cover 'lost benefits' the council also agreed to pay an extra £239,000 into his pension scheme to cover payments that would have been made had he continued working until 65, not that I blame him for taking it, but may be it is just me, but are council bosses overpaid?
