Penny Farthings,

are not the easiest of bikes to ride,

in fact getting on to one is an art in itself, so when you are returning from a drunken day out it seems a bad choice as a means of getting home some 14 miles away, but that is what Robert Bastin, 20, did when he took the bicycle from a garden in Honiton, Devon, from where he rode home to Exeter, I have to say I am amazed he got home at all on that bike,

but the story does not end there, what do you do with an unwanted penny farthing bicycle? easy sell it on eBay for £350, which is what he did, but there was a slight snag to the scheme, it was bought by the police who were looking out for it,

Defence lawyer Peter Woodley told a court on Wednesday, 'He was trying to get home, He had had a Christmas Day drink with his brother and it looked like a good idea', He will be sentenced next month.
