Now That Winter Is Upon Us,

sometimes you can be lucky enough to see something almost unique,

like this, an ice circle, we have featured them before way back in January 2009, but this one was pictured this last weekend, photographer Kaylyn Messer who having heard of the spinning disc jumped in her car and was fortunate to witness the incredible sight of this gargantuan ice disc as it spun in the current of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River, NW Washington, USA,

as I wrote in our first post, 'they occur at bends in the river where the accelerating water creates a force called 'rotational shear', which breaks off a chunk of ice and twists it around, as the disc rotates, it grinds against surrounding ice - smoothing into a perfect circle',

you can see more of her pictures of the ice circle on her blog here, the phenomena I am guessing is a once in a lifetime experience.
